I have to do a debate for school supporting New Zealand to host the Rugy World Cup in 2011. Please help I don't know much about Rugby or why New Zealand should host it instead of Australia.

  1. Are you from Aus or NZ?  If you are from NZ you can say that it would be good for the economy blah blah.  NZ is the ultimate rugby nation.  We have the best winning record (see All Blacks at wikipedia) and rugby union is our number one sport, whereas lots of Aussies now support League, Aussie Rules, or even cricket.  Australia has already hosted it, while we have only co-hosted it.. thats all I can come up with at mo

  2. I thought it had already been decided that it would go to NZ instead of Japan. The IRB are completely inept. It should have gone to Japan in order to encourage rugby there.

Reasons for giving it to NZ? The International Rugby Board are extremely conservative and lacking in imagination. That is why it will go there.

  4. New Zealand should host it, rather than Australia, simply because they are the better players. For years upon years NZ has wiped the floor with the Aussies, and they will until the end of time. The Aussies try to beat NZ by importing NZ'ers to play for them, but it does'nt work because NZ'ers only really play their best when wearing the silver fern.

  5. New Zealand hasn't hosted it for a long time and Australia had it 4 years ago. if it should be anywhere else it should be japan.??

  6. If the debate is:

Why should New Zealand host the 2011 RWC and not Australia?

It is a pointless debate because the decision has already been made by the IRB.

    However if the debate is:

Why you should support RWC 2011 in NZ?

Then it is a different question altogether.

Here a couple of ideas that would get my vote.

    • NZ haven’t hosted since they 1987 so it is their turn anyway. (Oz got the Olympics.)

    • People visiting because of the RWC will also get to see a beautiful country. (Great for tourism and other economic spin offs.)

    • The world will see the true spirit of a wonderful game, played in a country that epitomizes the essence of rugby.

    • The AB’s will hopefully be spurred on with “home” games to win the trophy they really really really need . This is their big chance to make good.

    • A tournament like RWC engenders a sense of national pride and lifts the psyche of the nation especially if the AB’s win. (Ask any South African what 1995 RWC did for the country.)

    • Stadiums and related sport infrastructures are upgraded and improved.

    • Gives NZ the chance to show that they are great sportsman and not the bad losers/whiners of the 2007 RWC.

    • The whole world gets to see the awesome Haka in its land of origin.

    • The physical size if NZ means relatively easy traveling between matches and venues. Great for the fans!

    • Man, its going to be fun!

    Good luck with the debate!
