Rugby world prays for Michael Lynagh – Rugby News update
Michael Lynagh, the former Australian rugby player who suffered a stroke on Monday night for reasons yet unclear, is thought to be in a stable condition now. Everyone involved with rugby is praying for his quick recovery and wishing him well.
The former Australian has made England his abode, and upon reaching Brisbane, Australia, the former fly-half was not feeling well. He complained of having blurred vision and a headache after the long-haul flight.
Everyone who has ever been involved with Lynagh has been shocked and due to this affable nature, good wishes have been pouring in from everywhere. His biographer, Andrew Slack, while speaking to a radio channel, said, "He lives in the UK now and he is back
here to visit his family and just felt unwell on Monday night and headaches and various things and ended up in hospital, which I think was initially diagnosed as a stroke-type of even."
Lynagh is considered a legend of the sport, and one of the top Australian rugby players to represent the country. In total, he achieved 72 test caps for the Wallabies, scoring the record number of points for an Australian. He ended with 911 points, still
an Australian record, in a career spanning from 1984 till 1995. He represented Queensland in the Australian rugby league and played a 100 times for the team.
His most notable achievement till date is winning the 1991 Rugby World Cup. He was the vice-captain of the team, and made the crucial tie in the quarter-final against Ireland that cemented a place for the Wallabies in the semis.
His former teammates and chairman of NSW Rugby Union chairman Nick Farr-Jones said, "I personally had the privilege to play alongside Michael for a decade and developed a great trust and friendship," and he further added, "Michael is a fantastic person and
a great teammate."I am sure everyone in rugby will be supporting him, (wife) Isabella and their family at this time."
Everyone wishes Michael well and the statements coming out of the Royal Brisbane Hospital indicate that he is recovering, while the doctors are trying to figure out the exact cause of the stroke.
