Ruhuna secures a place in the Sri Lanka Cricket Inter-Provincial Twenty20 Tournament Final: Cricket News Update
The Ruhuna side finally earned itself a spot on the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Cricket Inter Provincial Twenty20 Tournament final after defeating Kandurata in the event’s second semi final match on Saturday, 30 July 2011 at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. The game turned
out to be a close encounter for the winning team after Kandurata suffered a 7 runs defeat.
The match took off with Kandurata skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/NT-Paranavitana-c2132, winning the toss and opting to field, putting Ruhuna into batting first.
The bout took to the arena as Ruhuna suffered an opening loss after the team’s top order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Don-Nisitha-Amal-Athulathmudali-c54337, made his long walk to the pavilion after being declared out off a successful Leg before Wicket (LBW) appeal from Kandurata spinner, Jehan
Mubarak.
Recovering from the loss, the crease was then taken in charge by opener and team skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LD-Chandimal-c1831. Following an addition of some fair runs on the total, the captain too made his exit after contributing just 10 runs
for his team. The player’s wicket was owned by Mubarak.
Some stability came from the next in line batsman TM Sampath who came into aid Chandimal, as the two led the side into reaching the half ton mark.
However, more loss came for the batting side, after Sampath was made to exit the crease at an adequate sum of 23 runs.
Despite a consistent score addition, the wicket loss manner continued for Ruhuna with the 6th, 7th and 8th wickets coming up in the final three overs of the innings. Ruhuna finally closed its session with a fair total of
155 after a loss of 8 wickets.
As for the Kandurata batting response, the team suffered a swift loss of wickets in the opening moments of the innings after its top order crumbled down in the 4th over. The 4 losses included some potent players for the side including Sri Lankan

Following its troubled start, the following order offered some desperate attempts to recover from the loss but failed to do much after the Ruhuna bowlers kept pouring in swift blows to the team.
