Ruhuna v Wayamba – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Cricket Inter-Provincial Twenty20 Tournament 2011 - Match Recap
Wayamba thrashed Ruhuna by a handsome margin of seven wickets in a match of
Sri Lanka Cricket Inter-Provincial Twenty20 Tournament, held at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, on Saturday, July 23, 2011.
It was a comprehensive victory for Wayamba men since they did not let the opposition fancy their chances at any stage in the game. After winning the toss, the Ruhuna captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahela-Lakmal-Udawatte-c73806, decided to bat first, hoping to see the veteran opener, Sanath
Jayasuriya, do the trick for his side.
However, Jayasuriya failed to show his magic, losing his wicket to Thisara Perera after scoring just four runs. The skipper however, showed a little determination and shared the good work with the one-down batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LD-Chandimal-c1831.
The two batsmen racked up a crucial 63-run-partnership for the second wicket, steering their side to a strong position. The stage was set for big total but Udawatte suddenly gave away his wicket after adding 18 runs to the total. After the departure of the
skipper, it was Chandimal who consolidated the innings single-handedly.
While the wicket-keeper batsman smashed a thrilling innings of 88 runs off 57 balls, his fellow batsmen failed to contribute anything special. Suraj Randiv chipped in with 15 runs but it was Chandimal’s fabulous knock which guided the side to150 for the
loss of seven wickets in the given 20 overs.
From the Wayamba bowling department, every bowler took a wicket or two except http://www.senore.com/Cricket/T-Thushara-c2631 and Rushan Jaleel returned
with one scalp apiece.
Chasing a challenging target of 151, Wayamba got off to a great start. The two opening batsmen, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Muthukumarana-Landage-Rumesh-Buddika-c78139, put together a fine 119-run stand for the first wicket. Both batsmen reached their half-centuries elegantly but lost their
wickets in quick succession thereafter.
The two players collected 57 runs each and put their side in a comfortable position. Samaraweera hit three sixes while Buddika smashed the ball out of the park on four occasions. Later in the innings, a steady knock of 17 runs by the skipper, Thilan Kandamby,
helped the side notch a convincing triumph with 16 balls to spare.
Three Ruhuna bowlers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gagabada-Arachchige-Chinthaka-Rasanga-Perera-c58296, Randiv and TM Sampath, claimed one wicket each but all of them failed to hamper the Wayamba batsmen from scoring fluently.
