Question:

Rules and regulations for royal navy email usage?

While the royal navy was docked in my city, I met a sailor and he asked for my email. He emailed me the next day, I responded to the email the same day. It's been more than a day now and I haven't heard back, does anyone know their rules for email/phone usage. Is it limited to a certain amount of time? Can anyone help me with this?

  1. My partner is a RN Officer and has served on various ships.  The rules regarding email usage are dependent on where the ship may be - sometimes operational reasons affect access.  The same applies to phone calls.

When working on a ship, they don't have the constant access to phones and emails which civilians have.  There will be internet terminals which they can use when not on duty, but there may be considerable demand for them.

So the answer to your question is - yes, their access is limited by whether they are on duty and availability.

And remember - men don't see these things the way women do - he's probably thinking -"I'll e-mail her on Thursday when things are less busy!"

Get on with other things while you are waiting to hear from him!

  2. I don't know about thier policies but there are many times when the US Navy email goes down or is limited to essential for work purposes only usage while out to sea. Also, you need to give it more than a day to hear back from someone. Being underway doesn't mean you sit in front of a computer all day bored. You work hard the whole timeoften being 12+ hour days and 7 days a week.

    Have some patience.
