  1. I've played lacrosse for three years, and I started just by jumping right into a team. I'd suggest to just join a team. As for the rules, you can find a list of rules here:

    (girl's youth) http://www.uslacrosse.org/the_sport/girl...

    (women's)

My suggestions on a girl's beginning stick is either a deBeer Myssy or a Brine Xcel, both of which are priced around $40. I started out with a Brine Xcel and moved up to a deBeer Apex with a Power Wave shaft. Scooping the ball off the ground isn't illegal, and is a prime part of the game.

    Hope this helps. =]

  2. hey i've played lacrosse for five years now.  scooping the ball off the ground is perfectly legal, you just cant put your stick over it and make it impossible for anyone else to reach it.  depending on your age and league, there are different rules when it comes to checking the stick.  illegal/ dangerous checks seem to be the main reason for whistles during the game. you also can never check a girl's stick if she doesn't have the ball completely in it. Other important rules are:

               - you can never go into the crease (goalie's circle around the goal) unless YOUR goalie puts the ball down and runs out of it.

              - on defense you can't stay in the 8-meter arc around the goal for more than three seconds unless you are guarding someone within a stick's length away from you.

             - if inside the 8-meter arc you are directly in the way of the person with the ball, and youre NOT a sticks length away from them this is shooting space and illegal~ the other team will get a free shot.

those are the major ones i can think of at the moment, but ask me if you have any other questions about the rules.
