Question:

Rumbling feeling/noise from under car at high speeds... Why?

I own a 2001 Toyota Solara. A few weeks ago I began to feel/hear a prominent rumbling from under my car. As time has passed, it became worse and worse. It isn't apparent at low speeds, but when I get on the free way and hit about 40mph it begins. It is the worst between 50-60 mph. There is nothing loose anywhere under the hood or under the car. I changed everything relating to the brakes. I had every single fluid changed. The cv joints are good and the wheels aren't bent at all. I am at a true loss, please help!!!! thank you ;)

  1. If it's a roaring metal sound have your wheel-hub (wheel bearings) checked.

When they go bad it's often hard to tell which side is bad.

  2. if it sounds like it's "under" the car, might be universal joints in the driveshaft ( if it's rear wheel drive ), if not rear drive, then I don't know what it could be. Does the sound make a whump-whump sound, or just a rumbling noise. Usually joints only make a sound with a high-low pitch, but not always. A rumbling noise could be rear axle bearings, they kinda "roar" and rumble constantly when they go bad. I assume this is a high-mileage car?

One way to check the universal joints is to be at a standstill, and shift from Drive to Reverse. If you hear a "clang" or clunk sound, then you know it's a joint going bad. You should hear no noise when shifting between Forward and Reverse normally, any metallic noise means there's looseness somewhere under there in a driveline component.

    Good luck!

  3. could be 2 things

1-alighment((if the car shakes on high speeds)

    2-front axles

and also make sure that ur tires are all in good shape and have that same pressure and never buy a used tire

  4. wheel bearing, flat spot in a tire, maybe the drive shaft isn't balanced
