The Bayern Munich CEO has offered his support to the team after Franz Beckenbauer criticised the team for being ineffective.
The club’s honorary president Franz Beckenbauer had earlier criticised the team heavily for their poor showing last season. He insisted that the players did not show determination and did not give their all for the team.
The Bavarian giants had a dismal campaign last term as they failed to win silverware for the second year running. The team was potentially in the race to win three titles last year, but eventually failed to succeed on a single
occasion.
Bayern were runners-up to Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga and lost the UEFA Champions League and DFB-Pokal finals also. The side was unlucky as they played a rather impressive season, but failed to give the finishing touch.
Rummenigge claimed that things were similar when he and Beckenbauer played for Bayern Munich. He insisted that there were European cup games and League games three days apart which left the players tired, so the current lot of
players cannot be questioned for their commitment.
The chief stressed that Beckenbauer should be supportive of his team and should motivate the players ahead of the start of the new season. The former player is confident that his side will make a strong comeback next season to
secure their place back at the top.
The former Bavarian added that the players have the right attitude and are eager to perform when the campaign starts. He is also confident that the new players will also make their mark and help the side in achieving success.
“I can remember that we would often play together in European Cup games on Wednesday and then on Saturday we would be a little tired and sluggish. So, this is not a modern phenomenon, it used to be about before. Attitude is something
you must always have. It is not something that you should have to demand,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
Bayern Munich will kick start their Bundesliga campaign against Greuther Furth whereas defending champions Borussia Dortmund will play against Werder Bremen on Friday, August 24.
