The Bayern Munich chairman has insisted that the London club could face problems when the new rules are instated as they have huge losses on their balance sheet.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has insisted that Chelsea, the team Bayern Munich will face in the final of the UEFA Champions League final next week, will be affected with the new financial regulations by UEFA. He claimed that the team
has been spending heavily in the past few years and they will have to reach break-even.
The chief claimed that most of the clubs in Europe will face this problem as the spending is more than what they are earning. However, he admitted that owner Roman Abramovich will definitely have this at the back of his mind once
the season ends.
The former Bavarian added that Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona will reach a break even as they earn good profits through sponsorship deals and profits.
“It is no secret that 60 per cent of professional European football clubs are in the red. What I do know is that Chelsea would not meet the criteria of Financial Fair Play today. He [Abramovich] is completely likeable - and not
the kind to appear cocky or arrogant. He is more cautious. Real Madrid [will] break even, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 [will] break even,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, the chairman admitted that the season has been a fairytale journey for his side as they have had a sensational run in the Champions League. He added that playing at Allianz Arena in the final is also a dream
come true.
Rummenigge is confident that his side will lift the European crown next week as they deserve the feat after an impressive campaign.
“No director could have come up with a better one: you play a perfect international campaign, you have the final in your own stadium - and now I hope that there will be a happy ending,” he concluded.
