The CEO of the Allianz Arena outfit suggested that the Bavarian giants faced a tough task to get their target man, as Athletic Bilbao did not want to lose their star player.
Bayern Munich chief officer Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes that it was very difficult for the club officials to go through with the transfer and they received no help from the Spanish La Liga side. He claimed that the negotiations
stalled on numerous occasions and the Basque outfit did not co-operate during the transfer talks.
Moreover, Die Roten director suggested that the defensive midfielder sacrificed his own salary as he was so enthused to join the Bundesliga club. He agreed to get a decent salary instead of the big fat contract he was supposed
to get by signing for the German league runners-up.
Furthermore, the chief said that even on top of that, Der FCB paid over the odds for the star midfielder. He conceded that the young prodigy helped them as he has compensated the big-money deal by contributing from his own pocket.
"Of course this is a large sum of money. But the player is indirectly participating in it by giving up a large sum of money,” the director was quoted as saying in an interview.
The club official expressed his disappointment at the behaviour of Bilbao as they were against the transfer from the very first day. He was pleased with the arrival of the World Cup winner, after the deal being stalled because
of the tax and legal complications. Rummenigge feels lucky for the transfer to be completed.
"It was very complicated because we didn't have the co-operation of Athletic from day one. We are very happy that Javi http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martinez-c24468 is finally with us. In recent days, we still needed to resolve tax and legal problems. Fortunately
for us, we've succeeded," he finally concluded.
The 23-year-old is a versatile player and signed a five-year contract which will run till the summer of 2017. He joined the Basque club in 2006 for a fee of €6m from his http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/U-17-Youth-team-c40787 Osasuna. The highly-rated player desires to win
