Rummenigge admits Bayern decided on Mario Gotze over Neymar – Football News
Bayern Munich chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed that his side had considered both Mario Gotze and Neymar this summer but eventually settled for the Borussia Dortmund man. He admitted that he had a chat with manager Pep Guardiola and the decision was made after considering a host of factors.
The Bavarian giants signed Mario Gotze from Borussia Dortmund for an estimated fee of €37 million. The midfielder’s buy-out clause was paid by Bayern and he will be playing for the treble winners next season.
Rummenigge stated that the club had an idea of what kind of a player to sign this summer and considering all the options, only two were shortlisted. He insisted that Bayern had to decide between Gotze and Neymar at the end of the day.
“We had a clear idea of what kind of player we wanted to sign and discussed this with Pep. There were really only two players out there who fit the bill and were realistic transfer targets. One was Neymar and the other was Gotze,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
Rummenigge stated that he had a discussion with Guardiola regarding the weather in Europe and the language which was the main reason Neymar was not approached by Bayern Munich.
The chief stated that Gotze has the experience of playing in the Bundesliga and in Europe whereas http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858.
“I told Pep to glance outside and he asked me why. I then told him to imagine a Brazilian leaving his native country in 30 degrees celsius, only to arrive here when it's minus six. Additionally, he does not speak the language and the German culture is nothing like the warm atmosphere South Americans are used to,” he concluded.
Mario Gotze made 116 appearances for Borussia Dortmund in the four years he spent at the club. The player scored an impressive 31 times and won two Bundesliga titles with one German Cup. The midfielder also received the Fritz Walter Medal in Gold on two occasions in 2009 and 2010.
