The Bayern Munich CEO wants to get the UEFA Champions League quarter-final off to a winning start against the Ligue 1 side.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has expressed his desire to win the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Olympique Marseille. The Reds have been drawn against the Ligue 1 side after the draws took place on Friday, March
16, in Nyon.
The CEO stated that the pressure would be less on Bayern if they win the opening leg before meeting for the return fixture at the Allianz Arena.
The chairman warned his side against complacency and advised them not to relax against the French giants. He opined that if his troops could combine well in the first-leg then Bayern might not have enough problems making it to
the last-four of the competition.
However, he specified that Les Phoceens are not easy to beat at home and therefore the Munich giants will need to do something special in order to get the better of them in front of their home crowd. While talking to official club
website, Rummenigge further added:
"They beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567, so we have been warned. We will try to earn a good result in Marseille. It would be nice if we could open the door a little while we're there."
Rummenigge also advised his players not to think too far ahead and try crossing the first hurdle at Marseille. He views the La Liga duo of Real Madrid and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 as favourites to lift this season’s crown.
"Real Madrid have a feasible task with APOEL, but it is better we don't think of a possible semi-final against Madrid. Our aim is the semi-final, that's clear, but we have to take the first step before the second one. The top favourites
are still Barcelona and Real Madrid. It would have been nice if we had avoided these teams [on the way to the final]," the CEO concluded.
The Bavarian giants will first travel for the first-leg on March 28, before hosting the French outfit on April 3 at Allianz Arena.
