Microsoft has reportedly given the go ahead to Flextronics to produce the dev kits of their next generation console and also created a testing group as well.
It seems only a matter of time before the gaming community gets a taste of what to expect from the next generation of home consoles from Microsoft as they are set to hand over their hardware to developers in the near future.
According to reports, Microsoft has given the go-ahead to Flextronics, an electronics firm, to produce dev kits of their upcoming hardware.
For those who are not all too familiar with what a dev kit is, it is basically a mock up of all the hardware and components that the final console will have. It will give developers hands on time with the technology and specifications available to them to
develop for the console.
Think of it this way, it has all the bits and parts that the final Xbox will have but without an attractive case and is more of body without the skin, but with the muscles and bones all exposed.
Surgical analogies apart, the move does seem timely as rumours of the console’s specifications began lining up. The latest report also makes sense seeing how Microsoft would want the dev kits out as soon as possible in order to have enough content to showcase
on its reveal and the ensuing launch.
Microsoft has not responded to the queries from the general public on the matter. However, it is highly unlikely that they will do anything other than respond with the standard, ‘we do not comment on speculation or rumours’.
The report however, goes one step further as well claiming that the firm is also performing, “comprehensive marketing, software, and hardware tests of the next Xbox.”
What makes this particular rumour stand out is the fact that it mentions Flextronics, which “was the first manufacturer of the original Xbox and one of three Microsoft initially employed to work on the Xbox 360.”
If the reports are true than one can expect Microsoft announcing their console in the near future – not this E3 soon, but soon.
