Rumours about Chicago Cubs’ Ryan Dempster being traded to Atlanta Braves – MLB News
As the rumours continue to swirl around the fate of Chicago Cubs' starter Ryan Dempster, reports surfaced on Monday, July 23, that the Atlanta Braves are all set to acquire the starter. Carrying a July 31 non-waver Trade Deadline, Dempster’s fate appears to be in flux.
But Monday’s report, which is yet to be officially confirmed, suggests that the Braves and Cubs have reached an agreement. As for Dempster, he seemed loath to comment on the authenticity of the news. In his Twitter message, he even went on to the extent to say that he did not know ‘where this info came from’.
What is clearly known here, however, is that because of the affiliation with the team for five years and having had ten-years experience, the player has the right to veto the deal.
However, for the team manager, Dale Sveum, the whole news came as a big surprise. While he expressed his utter surprise over the report, he said anything can happen at this stage given the deadline getting closer.
"The team, the whole thing, was news to me -- the team obviously is the one that leaked it out, or it came out of their city," Sveum said while commenting on the Dempster-to-Braves reports. "Obviously, we can't sit here and say it can't happen. Anything can happen at this point. We have eight days until the Deadline. All the teams that are involved and want starters and need starters are all in play."
But for Dale Sveum, the continuing rumours have great impact on Dempster. He regards these rumours as unfair to the starter.
"I think it's very unfair for 'Demp' to have to deal with this," Sveum said. "He'll have to deal with it today, deal with it tomorrow.”
Having appeared in 15 games this season, Dempster has held a 5-4 record with 2.11 ERA in his 98 inning, having had 77 strike-outs with 1.05 WHIP.
He tops the National League with his 2.11 ERA, and remains fourth in WHIP, having had 1.05 record. Wherever he goes, he shall have his power, force and experience to empower the respective team.
