Rumours of Frankel's retirement cause concern and worry among the fans
Frankel, the four-year-old undefeated colt sustained an injury in a routine gallop on 11th April, 2012. His injury caused a scare among his fans which started premature rumours of his retirement
Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to Frankel’s owner, told the press that:
"He certainly hasn't been retired,” he reported to Racing U.K. that “No decision at all will be made until after he's had this definitive scan. No decision has been made regarding his future."
Trainer Sir Henry Cecil told the media that:
"He is such an extravagant mover that he hit himself. At this stage the injury looks superficial but he will be kept monitored over the next few days."
Due to the nature of Frankel’s injury, the outstanding runner will not be competing in the Lockinge Stakes, which are scheduled to take place at Newbury on 17thMay, 2012. According to Grimthorpe, his participation in the event is "very unlikely."
The son of Galileo, out of mare Kind succeeded in the St James's Palace Stakes (British Champions' Series) (Group 1) at Ascot on 14th June, 2011.
Mounted by jockey, Tom Queally, he claimed a narrow victory over, Zoffany, by ¾ of a length.
He also triumphed in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes Sponsored By Qipco (British Champions Mile) (Group 1), where he raced as a favourite with the odds of 4 to 11. He was ridden by Tom Queally again, who led him to victory.
He comfortably crossed the wire first, four large lengths ahead of the Marco Botti trained, Excelebration.
Due to his injury, it is speculated that he will be retired soon, but this is a false alarm and has not been confirmed yet.
Being the world’s highest rated horse, Frankel has a large fan base and most of them are worried that his career will end in an untimely manner.
He has had an extremely successful career as he has emerged victorious from all his starts since his career began.
His connections are hopeful that the young runner will make a full recovery after the definitive scans. Once he is diagnosed, the colt will get the best medical treatment available.
