Rumours of RB Ryan Grant joining Jacksonville Jaguars bust prematurely – NFL News
Free agent running back Ryan Grant is still very much jobless, as rumours of his joining the Jacksonville Jaguars stemming from a thin Twitter posting by him have been rejected by the team in a message to the newswire Associated Press.
Ryan tweeted referring ‘instagr.am’ who happens to be a member of the Jaguars organisation, which led to speculations in the league that the player is likely to get an opportunity from the team.
Some sections of media have cited independent analysts showing a sense of concern over the player’s staying without any team for so long, which can subdue his immediate pro career prospects.
Now the Jaguars’ potential link came as a welcome development, after the player wrote:
“Sharp..focused. instagr.am.”
With nothing more to say the RB left media guessing if it was a genuine confirmation or was the player just trying to play around words to seek media attention.
The doubts about integrity of the post were proven by the AP confirmation that the Jaguars have denied to be interested in pursuing Ryan at all. This cleared the speculative air for the time being and a question mark on the player’s National Football League
(NFL) future lingers on.
He has probably not received any firm offer from any side since his release by the Green Bay Packers. The Detroit Lions were reported to be interested in pursuing the player but they never approached him.
As far as the Jaguars are concerned they are yet to deal with the issue of long-term contract of their running back Maurice Jones-Drew. A possibility of dealing Maurice to another team in the league could have paved the way for Ryan or any other RB on the
market to join the Jaguars, but the team has ruled out entering a trade deal with any team to send off Maurice.
Although the situation is not very conducive for Maurice, the trade option is difficult to be exercised given both sides have desired that he remains a Jaguar.
Ryan meanwhile remains on the course of uncertainty about his future. He could only hope a team seeks his signing any time during the season.
