Rumours turn out true, Nate McLouth returns to Pittsburgh Pirates for one-year -MLB Update
Rumours which indicated veteran centre fielder, Nate McLouth, was making a comeback to his former team, Pittsburgh, after playing three seasons with the Atlanta Braves turned out to be true as the 30-year-old and the Pirates signed a one-year contract on
Wednesday morning, December 7, 2011, worth an estimated $1.75 million according to the latest reports.
It was only a day or two back that rumours began to spread about the player not wanting to return to Atlanta after participating with the club for two straight seasons and focusing on coming to terms with Pittsburgh, which came as the deadline was due at
midnight the day of the signing.
"It was the easiest decision I've ever made in my life," said McLouth who may be potentially be getting another $450,000 possible in performance bonuses over the season. "It's a no-brainer."
Having started off his career with the Pittsburgh Penguins, it is easy to see that the player would want to go back to the place he feels the best in.
Something that was surprising for the Muskegon, Missouri, United States native, was that Pittsburgh was the first team to call as soon as he turned into a free agent after the 2011 Major League Baseball (MLB) season ended.
"I was a little surprised, but I was happy," McLouth said. "Winding down, when I knew I wasn't going to be with the Braves anymore, it was a thought that went through my head, maybe coming back at some point."
Rejoining Pittsburgh now, McLouth has revolution on his mind and hopes that the team may be able to end the disappointing record they have achieved in recent seasons.
"My goal was to be part of helping the franchise turn around," McLouth said. "It was a task I looked forward to.”
It will certainly be interesting to see how McLouth will be adjusting with his old team that only has three players on it out of the 40 man roster which actually played with him back in his old days with the organisation.
Even more exciting will be to see whether he can live up to their expectations in the upcoming season or not, which will obviously be the determining factor for him staying on the team for future seasons or not.
