  1. Continue to run your 4-5 miles 4 days each week.  Add 2 days of track work scattered thru the week so they aren't close to each other.

Run 10x100s, hard fast controlled relaxed; then rest, relax, jog, walk the turns.  Make sure you stretch before and after as well as a half-mile warmup and cooldown.

Lastly, make sure you know the course so you can memorize your splits.  For ex, if it's a road race, you'll need to average slightly better than 6:27 per mile; so memorize that if they will call splits per mile.

    Good Luck

  2. I would say if you want to get down to 20 minutes in a month, run 5K everyday for the month.

-Run the 5K down the same path everyday.

-Do the math. Figure out what your avg. speed would need to be to do it in 20 minutes and keep track of your speed.

-Set goals for yourself. Decide that by the halfway point you should be at this time, and so on.

-Be patient. Don't get upset if it takes longer than you thought.  No matter how long it takes you, you'll get there if you keep trying.
