  1. Lord, labs LOVE to run! I had a wolf/husky hybrid who also loved to run. Fences were out of the question (he could jump a six-footer, and burrow better than a backhoe!), so I arranged a "dog-run between two trees about 100 feet apart, and encompassed a shady area and a sunny area, in addition to his doghouse/feeding area. I used an 8mm aircraft cable stretched tight between the trees, and made a "follower" out of a piece of 1 1/2 PVC pipe about 18" long (the follower" prevents metal-on-metal contact, which can hurt a dogs ears). I slipped a 1 1/2" metal ring over the pipe to the middle, drilled a notch on one side, and fastened a 10 foot chain to the ring. This system worked real well for many years. One last tip - cut a sponge rubber ball halfway through and place it at each end of the run to prevent the "follower" from slamming into the tree!
