Question:

Run the mile in Junior High?

Im a 12 year old girl and every week we do track. I hate it!

I have an 8:15 on the mile it sucks.

I need help to improve. Foods to eat, Streches to do, and ways to over come being afraid of it. Help!!!! I want a better time!!

  1. so i am also in track. this is my 4th year im a sophomore in high school. now i dont run distance im a sprinter/jumper (i usually run the 4x2, 200m, and high jump...i used to pole vault until i hurt my back last year) when we did our mile time i think mine was 5:13....for some reason that time sticks in my head. what you can do is run everyday dont eat junk...and try your hardest. make sure you use your arms and if you have long legs (like me) use them to your advantage take long strides. and pacing yourself is important

  2. You have to train fast to run fast...but really, 8:15 is not bad; try running on the road (or, at least, off the track - it'll give you more variety and more change in grade..hills, etc) for a change and just PUSH.  Good luck!

    P.S.  It doesn't hurt to strength-train:  suqats, lunges, hamstring curls...I got faster when I added weight/resistance training to my workout.  Get your coach to help you find some good exercises!

  3. run more, eat healthy (you know how to do that) and stretch your legs. And just breathe, relax, and have fun too. Talk to your friends when you run as long as they keep up the pace.
