i play runescape and i just want to know what is a talisman what does it do

A talisman is an item used to craft runes, you need to finish a quest called the "Rune Mysteries" quest to use the talismans to make runes from rune essence

They are used in Runecrafting, granting the player access to the "Mysterious Ruins" which contain an altar on which you can craft your runes.
