Runflatout will race in Lazaro Barrera Memorial Stakes
Fans cheering for Runflatout need to hold their breath, as he is about to make an appearance in the Lazaro Barrera Memorial Stakes set to take place on May 15, 2011.
He is to have the services of Garrett Gomez in the race. The three year old is owned by West Point Thoroughbreds.
This grade 3 event is the third of the nine races to be held over the Cushion Track. The thoroughbred race has a distance of seven furlongs. The post time for the race is 2:01 p.m.
Runflatout was considered as a favourite in his second start of the year, the San Felipe Stakes. The John Sadler trained colt displayed a show of brilliance in the San Felipe Stakes, he battled for a mile and a half against competitors such as, Premier Pegasus,
and, Jaycito, and then he dropped out.
San Felipe Stakes is considered a big step for the West Coast three year olds. He was placed tenth in that race. It was held at Santa Anita Park on March 12, 2011. Runflatout was run by Joel Rosario.
Runflatout’s trainer expects the colt to outshine in the Barrera. He has been working out pretty well on the Hollywood Cushion track. Runflatout was purchased for $165,000 at the Barretts Equine Limited March 2010 sale of selected 2-year olds in training.
He is sired by Flatter and has earned himself a 98 Beyer Speed Figure rating. He was also placed 23 on the individual choices in the Kentucky Derby Future Wager pool.
The synthetic surface of the Lazaro Barrera Stakes poses fierce challengers for Runflatout. These include Ain’t No Other, Flightofalifetime and Sinai.
Ain’t No Other will be attempting a second stakes win. He is owned by Tommy Town Thoroughbreds and trained by Steve Mayadi. He won the Henry Henson on April 21, 2011. This was the colt’s Southern Californian and turf debut at the time. He boasts winning
five straight races after standing fourth in the Pleasanton.
Flightofalifetime and Sinai are both trained by Bob Baffert. Flightofalifetime is owned George Bolton, Majestic Racing Stable and Summit Racing LLC. A son of Werblin, broke his maiden at Santa Anita April 9 by 2 ½ lengths.
Flightofalifetime was runner up in the March 19 Santa Anita to Maclean’s Music. He also participated three weeks later and won the race by 2 ½ lengths. He had Martin Garcia aboard him in that race and he earned $ 43,200. Martin Garcia will be aboard the
colt in the Barrera as well.
Sinai owned by Ahmed Zayat, has dropped four stakes tries in a row since debuting in Hollywood in December 18, 2010. His bankroll is $ 39,822.He will have Mike Smith as his jockey in the Lazaro Barrera Memorial Stakes.
Speaking of weights, Runflatout will get 115 pounds, the same amount to be taken by Flightofalifetime and Sinai.
Lazaro Barrera Memorial Stakes was won by Smiling Tiger in 2010. The Jeff Bonde trained colt was ridden by Victor Espinoza.
