  1. The battle of the beans......... Yes, the water might be the issue, conifers are greedy, but it might also simply be that the plants dont mix.

Conifers are highly acidic.  Beans require/do best with alkaline soil.  The combination of water rights and soil imbalance is a deadly combination.....and face it...the beans are much smaller and weaker.....

Dig up the dead, and if you want beans, right there, same spot, for continuity/appearance/etc........replant new seeds or plants in a bigger pot  (12-20 inches across and 8-12 inches deep to accomodate roots).....with the right soil for them, put them at that end of the trellis or run to fill in, (you can even insert the pole in their pot to make their trip easier!!)...and just remember to water well....above ground pots dry out much more quickly.  Very soon, the beans will be wrapping around their poles and sticking out their tendrils at the conifers in defiance of their acid nature......and the bees and birds will be embibing in their flowering abundance.....

    Good luck and happy gardening!!

  2. Conifers probably taking all the moisture   .  Roots go deeper than beans.   Try watering copiously  daily  .
