My fastest mile within the yr was 7:20 (but now I think it's a little slower). Anyway, I did track and I love running quite a bit (even though I'm not that great, I get tired fast).

How can I get down to a 6 min. or less mile?!?! I'd do just about anything to do it! I want it so bad. How long will it take? Any techniques/secrets? Interval running or long distance for training? P.s. I'm 5'3 and 120 lbs/muscular but I might need to lose 10 lbs to make it easier.

  1. u definitely want 2 work on ur long distance 1st. if u can do long distance the mile just gets easier & easier, after u have ur long distance down start working on speed. i run the mile & half mile in track & love it. u should do cross country because it gets u in great shape & ur endurance improves a lot!!!!!!

anyway...good luck!!!!!! =]] just keep trying!!!!! that's what i did & my mile is getting better & better!!!!! =]]

  2. First work on endurance [like running way over one mile]. It serves as a falling cushion for those days that you're really tired, so I have it in your body to keep going. Then work on speed [speed intervals, usually running 2 miles worth of 200's at a fast pace taking a really small break in between]. And just keep those two things in mind: endurance, then speed.

  3. there isnt a secret

just alot of hard work and dedication

a mix of everything is needed for the mile, you need long runs for endurance and sprints for your speed

    good luck

  4. I say do lots of long runs.  If you can run 3 miles at a good pace, you can run one mile really good.
