  1. Chocolate milk is suppose to be one of the best foods since it has the correct portions of carbs and protein after exercise.

Sounds like you running too many miles or maybe the different pounding grass versus asphault was a big change on your shins- yes try to break your shoes in and use anti perspiration deodorant on your feet - will help prevent blisters.  Also try to ice your shins afterwards or use a bag of frozen peas on your shins some people swear that it helps recover!  Good luck in your running!

  2. you have tryouts?? at my school everyone makes the team, but the top 11 are on varstiy.

your shins. before and after running, stretch out your whole body, esp the legs. walk on your heels and on your toes as part of the stretch to help out with your shins.

did your shins hurt before you got the new shoes? if they didnt, try another pair of shoes, asics perhaps?

in cross country, you run on all types of terrian, not just paved roads. so running on grass is something you can expect.

after running, drink fluids with electroyltes, such ast gatorade, but WATER IS THE BEST

  3. Couple things. I have been running through high school and new shoes are always tough to get used to. It is possible you have shin splints whih can be bad but they take a while to develop and dont just appear like it seems yours have.  It is common to take a week or so to get used to new shoes. Its actually better to run on grass because its easier on your knees and shins so that should feel better.

I have never heard of the chocolate milk thing though. Eating bananas before a run is good because the pottasium in them reduces cramps.

    Hope this helped

  4. The shoes you got are probably wrong for you or too stiff, too small, etc. And cross country courses are on grass so expect to run on grass and dirt all season. Ask your coach if you can wear spikes for the tryouts because they are super light and make going up hills easier. If you don't know what spikes are, look up cross country spikes on google.

  5. 1. It sounds like your shoes need to be broken in. Try walking in them instead of running until they feel loose. If your shins continue to bother you after you wear the shoes, you might want to go to a specialty store for running so they can fit you properly for shoes. For now, elevate your legs and put ice on your shins.

2.Your coach probably has you run in the grass for one of two reasons. One might be that many of the cross country courses are on grass as opposed to concrete or cement. The other is that running on grass is lower impact on your joints than running on a harder surface.

    3. Chocolate milk is a great recovery drink. It's full of protein and vitamins that will help your muscles recover and rebuild after a workout.

  6. Go back to your old shoes for try outs.  Break in the new ones slowly Don't do anything new on race day or try out day which is kind of a race anyway.  Chocolate milk after a run is fine, chocolate protein drink is better.

  7. Break in your shoes by walking in them alot instead of running.

and chocolate milk is real good for you cause of the vitamins!

    get hydrated with electrolites though!

  8. yes i drink chocolate milk every time after i run and its supposed to help your muscles recover faster

  9. new shoes shouldnt give you shin pains, unless they are really cheap shoes ( did they cost less than $60?)

    chocolate milk? what for?
