Are you able to run outside? Are there shoes that are suited for the icy conditions or do you run indoors? The problem I have is not being able to run for long periods of time on a treadmill because the gym limits running on a treadmill to 60 minutes.

  1. I use grips. They're rubber and have spikes on the bottom. You slip them on over your running shoes. They also have other versions.I believe they are called yaktrax.

  2. when i run in the winter out track team runs outside, even if its snowing.

i don't believe that their is any special shoe for the ice, but just be careful and know your surroundings.

  3. The number of days when there would be ice on the ground would be minimal.  On those rare occasions when the roads are very icy and have not been treated I would recommend not running.  Most communities treat the roads pretty continuously and unless there is a vicious ice storm you should find pretty good footing.

When it is just cold or the roads are snow covered run.  Until the temps drop below 0 degrees F you should be able to run by layering.  In cold conditions I prefer mittens to gloves.

Snow covered roads can be mastered by using trail shoes which have deeper ridges and give firm footing.

There is nothing more beautiful then being on a trail after an overnight snowfall and being the first to break trail.

  4. The only conditions I find it difficult to run at is clean ice, especially wet ice. Snow is usually no problem. You can buy running shoes whit spikes which are designed for running on icy conditions, but beware that this is extremely hard for your feet, especially the heel tendon
