Question:

Running, stamina questions? Cross country

I'm on the cross country team at school, and it is really kicking my butt. We did a relay, that for the two days I did about 5 1/2 miles, and my longest stretch was 1 1/2 miles. Before the relay, I had never run more than a 1/4 mile before, so I was pretty proud of myself.

But today we had practice again, and I felt like dieing before even 1/2 a mile! And I could definitely not do a mile straight.

What can I do? Our first meet is in about a month. I need to be able to run a 5k without stopping. Advice?

  1. Take matters into your own hands, and train on your own if you are serious about cross country.  Just go for a long slow jog after your practice is finished.  But u must stick with it. If you do, i can guarantee reuslts

    hope this helps :]

  2. when i am running competitively i feel like i'm gonna die throughout the whole race. so just run as often as possible and go a little bit further every time you run. you should be able to work your way up to 5k

  3. Work hard in practice and you won't have to worry about taking jogs after practice.  It is all about quality workouts, not quantity.  Jogging after might overwork you and give you shin splints or constant fatigue.  Finishing your first race without stopping is all about pacing yourself.  Don't start of too fast in this first one, you will get better during the season.
