    What we do here is "applied physics".  You've got 8800 tons but only 18 axles of dynamic brakes. (2 locomotives' dynamics are cut-out.)  Can you descend Donner Summit to Truckee safely?

  2. Let v = original speed

    Let d = distance of journey

    Let t = time of journey

    v = d/t

    rearranging we get

    t = d/v

    d/v = time of original journey

    d/(5/6*v) = time of late journey

    d/(5/6*v) - d/v = 10 minutes ===> solve for d/v ratio

    6/5*(d/v) - d/v = 10 minutes

    1/5*(d/v) = 10 minutes

    d/v = 50 minutes

    50 minutes

  3. 50mph
