  1. yes, running can be boring. but i suggest running with an iPod. gyms and treadmills can be boring so going outside is nice to see the scenery and take your mind off running. endurance is more important (usually) than speed so i would go 3 times a week. each week, increase the amount you run.

  2. it's best to run regularly a few times (I'd suggest starting with 3 and later moving to 4 times) a week. At first, just go for 20 min, then 30, 40, 50 as you get better. Vary your training by doing a 20 min fast run, 40 min long slow run or intervalls of 2 min fast with 2 min inbetween (about 7 times)

  3. I used to be like you. I HATED running. I used to wonder how anyone got any enjoyment out of it. I sarted running to accelerate a weight loss plan I was on. ActuallI started walking and eventually alternated between walking and running. Soon I was just running and at first like you, I would piddle out about 3/4 of a mile. I forced my self to stick with it and as time went on I would gradually increase my distance without worrying about times what so ever. I remember how proud I was when I ran the entire length of this bike path which was 1 1/2 miles. After that I was hooked. Eventually I was running no less than 3 miles. Keep it up. Your stamina will get better, and watch your diet.

  4. What is your goal of your running?

If you are looking to becoming a distance runner, then you should look at intervals (1 min stride, 2-3 minutes of walking or jogging), fartleks (regularly changing the pace of the workout), and LSD (long slow distance runs).  there are a few proven ways to help you get through your workout.  One, find someone to run with you.  Two, play some music while running.  Three, pay attention to your environment.  Count how many streetlights you pass.  Count number of cars.  Stride to one streetlight and then jog to the next.  The more you can take your mind off of the workout the more productive it is!

If you are looking to sprint better, I like to incorporate shuttle runs.  Take a couple of cones (or really any 2 objects) and set them apart by about 25 yards.  Then set up a program that you can follow.  For example, 1x400 yds, 2x200 yds, 3x100 yds and 4x50 yds.  Set a 1:1 work:rest ratio and then have a couple minutes between distances.  You can then add additional sets or change up the numbers as you increase.  You can still use a partner or music to help you with the workout, plus you will be counting how many times you go back and forth between the cones.

If you are not doing any particular sport and just running for fun, you can combine the 2 workouts.  Find out what your goals are and have fun with it.

    Good Luck!
