Question:

Running? And Running Shoes?

I've lost about 31 pounds through watching and limiting my food intake. I'm ready to incorporate the next phase in this lifestyle change and was wondering if running three days a week for about 30 minutes would help me lose weight faster.

(Also, what's a good cheap running shoe? For sidewalks?)

    yes, adding any type of cardio will help you lose weight faster.  don't start off running right away, make sure you warm up first.  make sure you stretch before you head out, and being your routine by walking.  once those muscles warm up, start jogging.  even if you only can last while jogging a few minutes, that's fantastic.  

    you could also buy yourself a cheap stopwatch (i have a "jogger's watch" with a stopwatch built into it).  you can start the stopwatch and walk for 5 minutes, then run for 2 minutes.  then walk for 5 minutes and run for 3 minutes.  keep switching from running to walking until you reach the 30 minute mark.  

    as far as shoes go, i have been a runner all my life and found that asics running shoes are the best.  they will cost an average of $60, but trust me, you don't want to "go cheap" when investing in sneakers.  cheaper made sneakers are often heavier and don't provide the proper support and cushioning you need.  asics are very durable, lightweight, and last a long time.  go splurge on yourself.....you lost 31 pounds after all!  that's amazing!  celebrate with a great pair of running shoes, and continue with your new healthy lifestyle!

  4. good job that u lost weight and trying to get active. running is very good for the body and so is walking too. a good pair of shoes will cost 50-100 dollars i got my Nike at models and were about $50  and i love them! good brands are nike, asiacs, new balance, addias, and many more

  5. It won't do miracles for you, but it would be a good part of a continuing fitness plan.  You may need to start that plan by combining jogging with walking, such as jog for 10, walk for 5 and repeat as you build more endurance.

    Sadly, "good" and "cheap" running shoes rarely are one and the same.  Check www.eastbay.com for running shoes that are on markdown.  The big name shoes are the best, Nike, Reebok, adidas, Saucony, Asics.
