Does anyone know any kind of wieght training that can help improve muscle endurance for running. (Like calf or quad exercises or something) And also, can exersises like push ups help breathing for running or can only running itself help that? I do run already but im curious

  1. In my years of training and running, the biggest gains that I have seen in endurance have been made by working on running mechanics versus anything else.  For example, if I have a runner who runs on their toes, they will be activating their calves muscles.  These are relative small so when they fatigue, it becomes the source of failure.  If you run on the balls of your feet, you will be working the glutes and hamstrings.  The glute is the largest muscle so it is less likely to fatigue since there are a lot more muscle fibers.  Same thing if your quads fatigue.  Also smaller and are likely sore because of poor running mechanics.

Strength programs should be light to medium weights of rep schemes of 12-20.  You can do some 8-12 for strength which will help with your kick (of course this is assuming you are running distance).  You can do arm, chest, shoulder as secondary workouts since you do use these in your run.

    Good Luck!

  2. llifting weights with legs. a platform with adjustable weights.  pushups are mainly for strenth, so no.

  3. do high repetion mid weight workouts

do the bench press. it really helps

  4. hill training is also good for strengthening legs
