Question:

Running (Faster)?

I heard somewhere that walking on the balls of your feet produces your feet better or somthing (I forget). I was just wondering if it was possible to improve your running skills by walking around in running shoes as opposed to walking around in Nikes.

  1. I haven't heard of the training methods you mention.

I think it is accepted wisdom that the majority of your efforts should be as "sports specific" as possible.

Exercising your calves by walking on the balls of your feet may increase their strength but not in a way that will positively impact your running. In fact, it is fairly likely that you will develop muscle soreness from exercising like that which will prevent you from doing the basics.

Concentrate on the basics and gently experiment with extras.

  2. I doubt that walking around in shoes or on the balls of your feet will make  you faster.

You need to do lots of things to improve.

    Lift weights, do plyometrics, run.
