Running PAIN!! help me please!?

I like to run to stay in shape. When i run long distances i get this really sharp pain in my side. Why does it happen? Is it uncommon? How to prevent it?

  1. That is probably a "stich" and things that generally lead to that are

    improper stretching and poor hydration- a good strech for the diaphragm is just to suck your gut in and hold it, and make sure to drink plenty of water the night before you jog- drinking while running (at least for me) ususally doesn't help much and just makes my stomach hurt. Drinking the night before allows your body the time to properly disperse the water.
