Question:

Running/Rollerblading Weight loss?

I am trying to lose weight, I enjoy running, but I really LOVE rollerblading- as uncool as it is. I just feel like running is a much better workout. How many miles/minutes a day would I have to rollerblade to lose some weight? Or to equate to running? I am 24 female 125lbs and eat healthy for the most part.

  1. If your rollerblading fast enough then its really good for you it uses alot of muscles. Its very similar to running. I find rollerblading alot funner than running for exercise, but running will probably help you burn the most calories. Then again if you don't like to run that much then you won't have the motivation you would if you were don't something you liked to do so you might end up burning more calories rollerblading anyways. It would probably take maybe 30 to 60 minutes of rollerblading to really take an effect on you, but then again it depends on how fast your going.


  2. Thats hard to compute because you are gliding and it takes little to no effort pushing off when rollerblading. Unless you are roller blading UP a hill, I dont see it being much of a workout at all.

    There is a reason why you can rollerblade alot further than you can run. Running is one of the best forms of excersize. You need to get your heart rate up to burn calories and you wont get that high of a heart rate by rollerblading.

  3. well i love to rollerblade and run.....like today i did 30 min of rollerblading and 30 mins of running.....mix it up....do what makes you happy!

  4. i don't know the answer to your question but i just wanted to say that rollerblading is very much not uncool. if you enjoy rollerblading you'll do more of it, therefore lose more weight.

    just putting it out there, though, that unless you are very short, you probably don't have much weight to lose if you weigh125 lbs. it's gonna be more of a diet thing than exercise. i'm not huge on the low carb thing, but try a reduced-carb/whole grain diet for a while and see what happens.
