Running Track- Am I slow?

Well I was considering joining track at school this year, but im not sure if im fast enough. I went out today and bought myself a nice pair of running shoes.

I had my dad time me on how fast I could run 50 yards. I ran the 50 yards in 9:06Sec. Is that slow? Because I know people who can run a 100 meters (thats like 100 and something yards) In like 12 seconds. Am I too slow to make the Track Team?

  1. Honestly yes that is pretty slow for a 50 yard sprint. Just keep on practicing and you'll see better results.Good Luck

  2. Depends on what event you want to do. In terms of 100m that is pretty slow, I'm sorry but it is what it is. The thing is you have to find what event and team you want to join. Try everything.

  3. I'm going to have to say that your slow but i would still work on getting better, my 100 time is 11sec but that is with a lot of work so with some work you should be good

  4. simple mathematics is your answer.  110 yards is about 100 meters.  divide 110 by 50 and that equals 2.2.  multiply that by your 9.06 seconds and that equals 19.93 seconds for 100 meters.  you're terrible.

  5. well i am on varstiy track and i run a 12.33 in my 100 its not really about how fast you are but at how hard you work.

because if you feeel like your not fast enough then that willl make you work harder and the harder you work the faster you will get so in the end it depends if you are willling to get better...

  6. I ran indoor track some in middle school and some in high school, and it doesn't matter if your fast or slow, it is a rewarding experience either way. I ran a 55 meter race a few times in high school and my average was 7.4 . that is pretty fast, but more average. I didn't care, because I got stronger, formed bonds with teammates, and won the respect of a girl, which led to a relationship. Also there are two types of running, speed and distance. Speed runners are good in short distances, but may suck at long distances. Distance runners have good endurance and can pace well, but may be slower then most. You would fit as distance if you ran. Even if you arent the best, you get stronger, and better.

  7. No you're not!

You're never to slow to run on a track team. I'm sure there are kids who will be slower than you, but you know what, you will improve, trust me!

Join the team, listen to what coach tells you and you'll do fine, you'll get faster.

    Good luck!

  8. if there isn't money involved in trying out, I think there's no pain in trying. They may cut you, but you could always be a manager in that case.  And, you will (most likely) train with them, get better, and may make the team next year.  Consider mid-distance also.  With practice you'll get better.
