Running Track- The 100Meter Dash- Am I fast enough to make the team?

Im thinking of joing track this year at school and I wanted to do the 100meter dash (for reasons that, if i listed them, they would exceed the limit of words im allowed to put on here) And I want to know how fast I should be to make the team?

I had my uncle measure 100 meters for me at my street and time me on how fast I was. The first time I ran 100M in 11:39sec. The second time I ran it in 11:15sec. Are those good running times?

Also, I noticed after Im done running my feet feel like they are on fire. Is this because I dont have good running shoes? I ran the 100Meters in a pair of rebock basketball shoes. Could anyone possibly suggest a good brand of running shoes to me? Thanks in advance for all the questions i asked.

  1. Those are hand times, which depending on the circumstances, could be a half-second off or more. Don't put too much stock into those times at all.

    Either way, even running under 12 seconds at all will make the team at 99.99% of high schools in the country.


  2. i dont know about the time..but your feel feel like they are on fire because of the blood rushing to them..it happens to me when i play basketball.

  3. I think that is excellent. The pros and run it in about 10 seconds. I can run it around 11 seconds to 12 seconds. This is so coincidental. Me and you want to run 100m. Both of us wants to tryout for the Track team this year for the first time. And I can run it in about 11 to 12 second. I hope you do well in the tryout even though if its next year, but good luck to you and me.

  4. heres a hint..

    basketball shoes + track = bad idea.

    try getting stuff like nike, addidas, reebok stuff like that.

    running shoes should be flexible, with a rubber bottom,

    you could probably ask a salesperson to help with your selection of shoes.

    and 11:39(and 11:15) is a very good time, by the way.

    try stretching and warming up / cooling down before and after you run.

  5. your times are good but not fantastic and yes join the team cause youll get better in practice and new balance and nike or addidas are all pretty good shoes to have make sure you buy spikes there best for sprinting
