Since cross country is starting ....soon, i was wondering if i should take up running instead of swimming. i'm not especially good at either one so don't tell me to do the one i'm better at. oh and if i am to do swimming it is year round, 4 times a week. and running would be 5 times a week for both cross country and track. i haven't done cross country before but last spring i ran distance track, and i have been swimming for roughly 2 years. so what do you guys think?? thanks!! oh and if theres anything i should add please tell me. :)

  1. deff cross country.

swimming is boring caz ur doing lap after lap after lap whereas in cross country u get to go on longer courses so its not da same thing ovr and ovr again. runs are usually in da woods.

plus for swimming training u hav to run anyways. a lot. and training is intense. they hav to go to practice at like 4:30 b4 school and den til like 6 after school.

  2. Hey! I am/was sort of in the same situation as you. I've been a distance runner for years now, but i've recently taken an interest in swimming.  I've already made by decision to do swimming instead of cross country.  However my decision may be a little biased, considering part of the reason why I chose swimming was because of how i was treated by my teammates in cross country. I just wasn't happy.  I realized i needed to get out of that group for my own mental health. And after research, i realized for better physical health perhaps too (less impact, "full-body workout", etc.) Honestly, I think you need to choose which one makes you happier, and which one you're more passionate and enthusiastic about. Either way, running and swimming are both great sports =)

  3. I would say swimming. As a year round swimmer and a spring track runner, I've found that I enjoy swimming more and its better for the body.

Swimming uses many more muscles all at once than running. It strengthens your arms, legs, shoulders, back and abs. It also is gentler on your joints so you'll be able to continue swimming your whole life.

Tough in my opinion swimming is better for you body, if you are interested in running track and cross country you should make sure to get a little running in. It's easy to wake up in the morning and go for a quick jog.

Hope this helps and good luck with whichever you decide!
