Is running a mile the same as walking a mile? I mean do you lose the same number of calories walking a mile or running a mile. I know walking a mile would take longer than running it but which would lose more calories?

  1. You would burn more calories running than walking. If your goal is to burn as much calories as possible between those two you should defiantly run. Here is a website that you can put in your weight and a various activity and it will approximate how many calories you will burn.

Look at this article it says it clear as day that you burn more calories running than walking, the belief that you burn the same is an urban legend and has since been dispelled.

  2. The distance doesn't burn more calories, but elevation changes do.  If you walk a mile, you will burn the same calories as running a mile.  It takes the same amount of energy to carry your body weight the same distance, whether you are going fast or slow.

Yes, you will lose the same number of calories.

  3. The amount of calories used is practically the same.

Running uses more energy, but you finish faster, so the total is the same.
