Question:

Running XC/Track in College?

I'm a rising senior in high school and i'm interested in running at a DIII school. This was my first year ever doing any form of running, so my XC PR currently is 18 minutes flat, but in track my PRs were 4:50 in the mile and 10:59 in the 3200. Where would I stand as a runner in college...poor, mediocre, decent, pretty good, etc.?

What would be times to be considered for recruitment? just as an fyi.

  1. depends on where you go, but anything under 15 min for the 2.25 mile is average, so for XC you're a bit off.  track times are decent, so i would say you have a pretty good chance for the track team.  good luck!

  2. for division III even your results (as of now) would be mediocore.  I'm not trying to be mean, but i am telling you the truth.  in last year's divison III outdoor championships (they run the 1500 as apposed to the mile) your 4:50 mile is equivalent to a 4:31 1500m which would have put you in last place by 15 seconds.  Your 3200 time would also put you last but then do not have a 3200m race.  The last place guy in the 5000m ran a 15:20 which would have beaten you by 2:40.

Good Luck though!!  I hope you improve to the best of your abilities.
