  1. The jump from 8 to 12 isn't that massive. It's mostly about mental attitude.  Don't over train, eat and sleep well the previous night and you'll be fine..

  2. With 4 weeks to go, 8 mile runs are good.

You could try to do a 10 mile run at the weekends, and then go back to the 8 miles during the week. 10 miles is a milestone length - psychologically and in actual distance (3/4 of the way).

So long as you have had a few weeks of good 8 mile runs and the odd 10 mile run between now and then I think you will be fine with the run.

In my first half marathon and I hadn't ever run more than 4 miles but I managed it in a decent time I thought. With your 8 - double what I did - you will find it OK

  3. What's your current training schedule??

What & how much training have you done in the immediate past month??

  4. step up once you can finish the 8 miles without stopping to walk. what you do to keep a constant pace for the full 13 miles is that you must totally forget you are running. enter an entirely different consciousness, of you thoughts, and not reality. i can go through an entire marathon without breaking.

  5. Keep putting in training, and see if you can extend a long run or two between now and then.

The main thing you need to beware at this point is overdoing it before the half.

There are minimal fitness gains you're going to make in a month, but you can s***w things up by trying to "cram." The last few days before, err on the side of resting rather than overtraining.

If you can make it through 8, you should be able to survive 13 as long as you don't totally stop between now and then. It's the "stepping it up" that could actually bite you if you're not careful.

  6. I would do 10, 12, 10, and then the race. Good luck and have fun! The half is my favorite distance.
