Question:

Running a red turn signal?

I was wondering if I will get a ticket, silly question, I know, but let me explain the situation.

I drove into the left turn lane and waited for the light to turn green. The light for the left turn lane remained RED. I waited for THREE cycles and realized it was never going to turn green so I ran the red when it was clear of traffic.

Any thoughts?

  1. There are sometimes where the same thing will happen and I have been there for 5 cycles and then I just proceed on through.

I know it is illegal but it sometimes seems that it will not change and I do have to move on but only if the the road is clear.

  2. I've done it, just be really careful, lights can malfunction. I hope you called someone about the problem this puts them on notice that there is a problem there

  3. That happened to me once. I backed up a bit and went over the sensor again then it turned Green for me (the street was empty). Yeah, if you get nabbed on Camera or by the police you'll buy a violation. Careful next time.

  4. Any cameras? If not you are on your way to becoming a Wiz Bang red light runner.

Technically, you are PROHIBITED from ENTERING an interserction if the oncoming traffic will not permit you to traverse the intersection without stopping (stay at the stop line) If you are AT the stop line and the light turns from YOUR green to red while you are waiting for the oncoming traffic to clear and you go through the light, you have just run a red light.

The PROBABLE reason that the light did not turn green for you in three cycles is becasue you were TOO far out in front of the vehicle road sensor and the light controller did not know you were there. Stay behind the stop line.

  5. Sometimes you have to. When there tripped by some sort of sensor and it doesn't work you just have to say s***w it.
