Question:

Running advice- What should you eat/ shouldn't you eat before a race or a big run?

I have been running for a long time now, but have always run into this problem:

If I eat anything (protein/ carbs, etc) less than an hour before I run, I get pains in my stomach and up near my shoulder. But, if I eat over an hour before I run, that is not a problem. However, I find that I don't have as much energy as I should after about 45 minutes if I do that. I make sure to remain very hydrated, but is there also such a thing as being too hydrated?

How long should I wait AFTER eating to run? Thanks for the advice :)

  2. make sure u don't eat a big meal. something small but not a lot of water but enough 2 keep hydrated so u can win! maybe waiting an hour or half an hour would help. i know u'll win! good luck ;)

  3. It differs from person to person but if you stay with this guide you should be fine.

Eat what you would before a training session for the race's. But if you normally run in the morning and the race is later then do a couple of runs at this time and experiment what feels good and what doesn't work before the real race.

You can get too hydrated and a couple of people have died from this. The only way this can happen is if you drink too much water in a short amount of time eg 5 litres in 10 mins. As long as you drink steadily so that your body can cope you will be fine.

    Hope this helped

  4. Usually the rull of thumb is to wait a MINIMUM of 2 hours after eating a big meal before you run. If you decide not to eat a big meal beforehand, a light snack like a cliffs bar, half a bannana, or a few slices of apple are good to eat 30 minutes to an hour before the run.

  5. already night before lots of pasta you dont want to be too hungry in the morning. right before eat something light either an energy bar of some fruit (cliff bars are awesome for me)
