Running back Brandon Jacobs impressing San Francisco 49ers – NFL News
Although running back Brandon Jacobs might not get as much limelight while being with San Francisco 49ers as he got while playing for New York Giants, the player is reportedly shinning bright during the team’s training sessions.
Since 49ers already have a star rusher in Frank Gore, Jacobs’ role might be limited, but the 49ers are very pleased with the player’s strength – his ability to power through the opponents’ defence and gain short yardage.
49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman thinks Jacobs is a “unique running back”. The coach is not only impressed with the skills of the running back, but also with Jacobs’ attitude.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Roman said of Jacobs:
“The biggest thing I’m impressed with, with Brandon, one of the many things. he’s very critical of himself. He might make a great run and hit it, but he’ll still say, ‘I could have done this better; I could have done that better.’”
He added:
“We like that. That’s what we look for, so he’s been a great fit.”
Since Gore is going to be their leading rusher in the upcoming season, Jacobs, who has two Super Bowl rings, is still not sure what will be his role in the team. Nevertheless, he has expressed willingness to play at any position the team wants. He said:
“Whatever they need me to do, I’m down with it. Whatever helped this team win, I’m down with it.”
Jacobs’ arrival in San Francisco is not the only change the player has experienced this year. In fact, he has been working hard since the last few months and has successfully reduced his weight to increase his efficiency.
Anxiously waiting for the season to begin, Jacobs said:
“I feel faster. I feel stronger. I feel like I’m playing with better leverage, my pads are down more, my balance is better.”
Meanwhile, Jacobs has said that he wants to win his third Super Bowl ring and see the 49ers winning the National Football League (NFL) title this season.
The 49ers are well capable of achieving this feat as they were tremendous throughout the 2011 season and despite losing in the National Football Conference (NFC) championship game they were appreciated for their overall performance.
