Running back Chris Polk joins Philadelphia Eagles after not getting selected in 2012 draft –NFL News
Running back, Chris Polk, who failed to attract any team’s attention during the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, has joined the Philadelphia Eagles after signing a rookie free agent deal with the team.
A total of 253 players were selected in this year’s draft, but Polk was unfortunate not to be among them. However, he did not have to wait too long before getting an opportunity to join any NFL team.
As soon as the draft was over, he joined the Eagles, who also added more than 10 free agents to their squad after the draft.
Some reports suggested that the apparent reason for Polk not being able to attract any team’s attention during the draft is that he is suffering with injuries.
Polk admitted that he has heard some concerns about his throwing ability and problems with shoulder, but he rubbished all the other speculations.
In an interview to NFLDraftScout.com, Polk said:
"I will just have to go out there and show them I have a lot of great football left in me. I know teams are concerned about my shoulder, but I also heard somebody say something about a degenerative hip, and there is just no truth to that. I had labrum surgery
on the shoulder a year ago and it didn't slow me down last season."
When asked about how he was feeling after not being able to attract any team during the three-day draft, Polk refrained from commenting on the matter. He, however, pointed out that he has now joined Eagles and looking forward to prove his worth there.
It is pertinent to note here that Eagles’ head coach, Andy Reid, also said on the third day of the draft that he wanted to give more playing time to running back, Dion Lewis, during the last season in which LeSean McCoy got most of the playing time of the
field.
Now with the addition of Polk, the competition is certainly going to increase and the new signee seems ready for the challenge.
He said:
“Of course I would have preferred to be drafted and drafted high. But the main thing now is that I am with a great offensive team and I will get my opportunity to show what I can do in the NFL."
