Running back Fred Jackson content over wining 2-year, $9 million deal from Buffalo Bills-NFL news
Running back, Fred Jackson, can potentially earn $9 million on his new two-year deal, which he signed with his employers, the Buffalo Bills, securing a place for him till 2014.
The signing of the new contract was disclosed by the player himself at a media conference on Monday, May 07.
He noted the fact with excitement, saying:
"I'm excited to sign the extension to stay here because I feel like something special is about to go down, and I want to be part of it."
Jackson added:
“It's a big day. I'm happy to be here and I'm glad that this is over with and now we can focus on playing football. This is a day to put that to rest. We don't have to worry about that anymore."
Terms of the deal, including its value, have not been officially revealed by either of the stakeholders.
A section of media, however, has quoted an anonymous person, privy to the negotiations, disclosing that the running back was set to earn somewhere around $9 million.
Following the disclosure of the value, neither the management, nor the player’s agent confirmed or denied validity of the reports.
Bill’s general manager, Buddy Nix, has linked the move of Jackson’s contract extension to the team’s policy of retaining the quality talent in the longer run.
Nix said:
"We've always said we want to try to keep our good players, and we've done it again today. He was a huge piece of the puzzle for us."
Although the GM refrained from commenting on the sense of resentment prevailed in some of the players over respective payouts on their contracts, his assertion of working out deals for the talented players will certainly come to serve the cause of the players
like Jackson.
Jackson, who was due to earn $7.5 million on his previous four-year contract, had last year complained of being underpaid.
As now reflective from his comments, the player said to be happy and content with terms of the new deal even though he did not mention the exact amount he has now been committed.
