Question:

Running everyday....

I usually run about a mile or more everyday depending on how I am feeling that day and how hot it is out. I started this a month ago just to get in shape, but i was wondering if i will notice any muscle differences or if it will do anything for my upper body especially? Possibly my abs?

  1. you need 15 minutes of roadwork [running] if you want to get your stamina up. you will probably only lose weight and build some muscle, but if you want to build more, you need to sprint.

  2. You will start to see some muscle, although you may need longer than your current running to get a lot; but running everyday is good.  Your upper body does get worked out, it helps the core (chest and abs) and also some with your arms.  But you won't get too far unless you incorporate other strength exercises such as push ups and ab workouts.  Your legs will obviously get toned.  Where you take your running in the future will also help determine what you see.  Sprinting builds and needs large muscle mass, while longer distances needs smaller, leaner muscles.  I am guessing that you will stick with longer distances, though.  I prefer that.  Keep running to stay healthy and fit!
