A buddy of my recently got me into the running sport thing I quess. He started off way faster and with more endurance which ain't saying a whole lot because he is 43 and I am 21. Anyways he can run just under 8 minute miles. I want to get to where I am faster than him and I believe I am training right. I ususally just run maybe x amount of miles real slow. I am up to where I jog 1 mile, walk 5 minutes, jog 1 mile. I am slowly building up my mileage/workout. Would this be an good training plan? Also, I ran my PB the other day...... 1 mile in 8:35. Considering I keep training everyother day and stay focused on the prize, what would be a ball park fiqure on how soon I could reach a sub 8 minute mile? About? If you need more details let me know and if you have any helpful training tips I would be more that thankful.

  1. try going to a track occasionally and running at least 4 400m. repeats at a pace you want your mile to be at. example: for a perfect 8min., 2min. per 400m. also, doing some hill repeats pretty quickly will help with speed. other than that, what you're doing is good. within about a month, if you work really hard, you can probably run a sub-8 min. mile.

  2. ok umm i run a 5:00 mile right now in high school and if u really wanna blow this guy out of the water then you should do this workout we do in practice it really helps:

1 mile warm up (very, very comfortable)

stretch really well, then start off with a 200 at 30s pace

then do a 400 at 65s a 600 at 1:30s and an 800 anywhere under 2:45 then go back down 600, 400, 200 and drink a truckload of water....lol but if you do this for monday tuesday and thursday you will see results really fast wednesday and friday are recovery days to help your legs recover all those worn out muscles..........trust me i run a 2:06 in the 800, my fastest mile is 4:45, and i run the 400 in 53s now because of this workout....hope it helps
