Question:

Running halogen spots though a dimmer.......?

I am rewiring my house and need to put spot lights in most of the rooms. Most of the lights are switched using a dimmer, though I was wondering, is it possible to run low voltage halogen lamps through a dimmer? Or do they need to be mains rated lamps?

My main concern is whether the transformers for the low voltage lamps buzz as the lights are dimmed?

  1. You can dim low voltage lighting, but you actually dim the

transformer and you need a special dimmer. You can find them online or at an electrical supply shop. They are quite a

bit more expecsive than your normal dimmers though.

Here is a place where I have purchased a few. Hope this helps.
