  1. If you feel sluggish because of not having enough energy during the run, you may want to try eating an energy bar, such as a Cliff Bar, Powerbar, etc. or something of that nature before your 3rd period.  Do not eat before the run, this can cause cramps as well.  Try to drink water all of the time, but limit your intake before the run.  Remember, your body is what you eat, so if you eat healthier foods, it will respond better when it is asked to perform while on the run.  If you live close to a bicycle shop, stop in there, they should have a variety of different energy foods.

To improve your time, you should go out for track and field and listen to what your coach says, even if he/she is not talking to you directly.  Learn, Learn and Learn more.  These people have been right where you are today.  If they are good coaches, they should be willing to steer you in the right direction.

As far as shoe preference, you need to get fitted for the correct shoe.  This means going to a trained person that knows what a GAIT is.  This person will note your walk and run style to see what type of shoe your foot will need.  If you can find a store that sells Multisport (Triathlon) equipment, there should be a knowledgeable person close by.

    Hope this helps!

  2. It's only one mile so don't worry about eating before, have a good breakfast, toast with honey or jelly, cereal, OJ.  A small cup of coffee 30 minutes before you run will help.  Don't worry about being left behind at the start, it's the finish that counts, pace yourself.  Breathe in through your mouth and nose, fill your lungs completely.  Who wants to run like a fruity singer.

  3. breate in through your nose and you will run like mikael jaksun

  4. keep yourself at a good pace for the whole thing and maybe sprint at the end.  If you stay at a good pace you can catch up to everyone because they will be tired out.
