Running motivation without music?

Just recently my ipod broke and i listened to that while i went running. Now i seem to be losing interest in my running.

I won't be able to buy a new ipod for a month or so and by then i think i would have lost interest all together.

What can i do to help me get more interested?

  1. You can do a few things.

    Give yourself a new running challenge, for example enter a race (see websites such as runnersworld, runningfitness or UKresults) - they are all friendly and distances from 3 miles to over a marathon depending on what you want to do. This gives you a goal to aim for.

    Change your running route, look at the map of your area and pick new routes to run along - explore as you go. For example, this year its my goal to run along every road I can withing 3 miles of my house.

    As you run pick silly challenges to do, one i do is to zig zag round the street furniture - pass on on the left, the next on the right, this is OK until they get close together but it gets interesting.

    Take a drive to a new area to run, like a park or wood, a change of scenery is good

    Go with a friend, and chat as you run

    Or, instead of running, try having a few weeks of another sport such as cycling or swimming until you get a new mp3 player (they all do the same thing you know - you dont need ipod). Cycling and swimming both complement running well


  2. just keep  thinking of how great running is for you and how good you'll feel after you do it. Also try listing to a song on a cd before you run so you'll have the lyrics stuck  your mind to think aboout while your running.

  3. buy a bog standard mp3 player, I bought one from argos for a tenner and you can put hundreds of songs on it. Save your dosh!!

  4. use your laptop to play song in your room while running on the spot and doing exercises,

    then when you get  new iPod you'll keep your fitness up or be fitter and enjoy running more than ever.

  5. Watch somebody winning a gold medal on youtube or breaking a world record before you go out :)

  6. attach a pole over your head with a bar of chocolate on the end and run after it or get someone to drive along with chocolate whilst shouting encouraging things at you!
